Wrestling completes second day of Far East Tournament

Day 2 of the wrestling team's Far East on Friday at Kinnick was a successful day for the Knights. While low numbers have hindered the potential for team success, CAJ won four of its five individual matches on Friday.

Joe (108 pounds) and Jordan (115) began the day by competing in the third-place matches for their individual weight class championships. Both wrestlers captured third place by pinning their opponents. Joe did so against his Yokota opponent in just 40 seconds, while Jordan did so against his Humphreys opponent in three minutes and 59 seconds.

Coach Morris Yaegashi noted that Joe's success in the tournament has come down to his ability to execute his go-to move.

"He's won with a head-and-arm throw three matches in a row now," Yaegashi said. "There are certain situations where I tell him not to do it, but the last few times he's been hitting it has been in the right situations."

Later in the day, Jordan, Joe and Tai (122) all competed against opponents from Humphreys in the dual meet championships. Jordan and Joe pinned their opponents again, while Tai was pinned.

Overall, CAJ lost the dual match 35-10 to Humphreys to move to the consolation portion of the bracket.

The wrestling team will compete against Zama today (Saturday) in the final day of the dual meet tournament before returning home.
