HS wrestling falls to ASIJ 52-5

The high school wrestling team went to ASIJ on Wednesday evening for a dual match against the Mustangs. Unfortunately, the Knights lost 52-5.

CAJ contested six weight classes and ASIJ had 12 weight classes represented, so the Knights started the dual at a 30-point disadvantage. Jordan (108 pounds) ended up being the only CAJ wrestler to win his official match as he pinned his opponent.

The Knights also had several exhibition matches against the Mustangs. SungWon was able to win one of those matches by pin, and Peter won one of those matches by technical fall.

CAJ's squad is still rather inexperienced. The team had many wrestlers compete in their first official match on Wednesday.

"There's no doubt that we were all ready physically," coach Morris Yaegashi said. "I think we were just a little bit overwhelmed by the ASIJ presence, and that's just something that we need to work on mentally. Especially for first-year wrestlers, the road to glory is so long and tough."

The next wrestling match for the Knights won't happen until after Christmas break. CAJ will travel to Yokota on January 9 for a dual against Zama.
