HS girls' soccer wraps up season on final day of Far East Tournament

The high school girls' soccer team wrapped up its season on Friday at the Division II Far East Tournament. CAJ lost 2-1 to Yokota in the quarterfinals of the single-elimination tournament.

This was the Knights' closest game against the Panthers this season. Previously, the team had lost 2-0 and 4-0 against Yokota.

Coach Charles Smoker was very happy with the performance his team put forth against the eventual tournament runner-up:

"This was definitely our best 80-minute game of the season. Unity-wise, they were great, and effort-wise, they were great. Except for a win, it was everything I could have asked for from the team."

CAJ held strong to keep the game as a scoreless tie until early in the second half, at which point the Panthers scored two goals in quick succession.

Then, Smoker said the team had its "best 20-minute stretch of offensive play this season" to close the game, keeping the pressure on the Panthers. It was during that stretch that Miyuki was fouled in the penalty box and then converted on a penalty kick. The Knights ran out of time to put in an equalizer, unfortunately.

"We had a really good debrief session, and the returning girls are really excited for next season," Smoker said.

The Knights ended their season with an overall record of nine wins, 10 losses and two ties.
