Projects[edit]
Work projects[edit]
Our students and staff have worked with local government volunteer centers, Samaritan's Purse, and other local churches and organizations. In October our entire 10th and 12th grade classes worked on a project to prepare houses for carpenters. In June, 2011, right after graduation, a number of our just graduated seniors made a trip to volunteer for disaster clean up.
Food is Love[edit]
Our staff provided one BBQ for a large number of people living in an evacuation center, and our students did another. We are currently working with Second Harvest to prepare food boxes for distribution to those living in temporary housing.
Staff involvement[edit]
Most of our staff have personally donated time, money, fruits and vegetables, and much more to alleviate the suffering and work on the rebuilding. Many of our staff are regular volunteers with other organizations (such as CRASH) working with recovery efforts. Our most recent group staff trip was the weekend of the 8th month anniversary of the tsunami where we did work on three houses in cooperation with Samaritan's Purse.
Recorder project[edit]
Our principals are working directly with a school that was destroyed by the tsunami, and we provided musical recorders and kenban melodeons for these students. The money to purchase these specifically came from the sale of t-shirts designed and sold by our volleyball team.
Day care center recovery[edit]
We have assisted a day care center with replacing their electronics, and our students and staff have spent time interacting with their students.
Soccer camps[edit]
In June we partnered with Sports Ambassadors to use our students to run soccer camps in June in the affected areas. We also taught English, played with students and did a number of clean up activities in the Tohoku area including recovering fishing boats, reclaiming farm land, and public area clean up.
