Support Team
*The Support Team (formerly SST or Student Support Team) is a multi-disciplinary group of staff members tasked with advising the Leadership Team on and monitoring delivery of individualized programs for students with special needs.
- Services include identification of students, coordination of internal and external services, and communication with and advocacy for students and parents.
- The Support Team Coordinator sets agendas, chairs meetings and is responsible for general Support Team functions. The Support Team Coordinator also serves as a secondary supervisor to Support Team members.
- A Leadership Team member is appointed annually by the head of school as Support Team Liaison, a leadership team portfolio.
- Support Team members also work with the general student population in their job capacities.
- Members of the Support Team:
- Health Coordinator
- Guidance Coordinator
- Guidance Staff
- Resource Staff
- Division Principals
- EAL (English as an Additional Language - formerly ESL) services are under the umbrella of the Support Team but generally function separately as EAL (ESL) is considered a remediable learning difference. However, if the cause of a student's learning difficulties is unclear and possibly EAL (ESL), the Support Team advises the Leadership Team on next steps. See also AIM Process
