Spirit Club Is Creating Excitement Around CAJ Sports and Clubs

A walk through the CAJ high school hallways prior to 2000 would have revealed a common article of clothing among students: a blue, gold, and off-white CAJ Knights letter jacket. Each student wearing the jacket had their last name printed on the back, along with a variety of patches and pins representing accomplishments in sports and fine arts.
Thanks to the recently founded CAJ Spirit Club, the letter jacket tradition has made a comeback.
Sarah, a junior at CAJ, formed the club during her freshman year, initially as a way to create more school merchandise. It started as “Design Club,” with the first project focused on designing and ordering letter jackets.
By the next year, Sarah’s vision had expanded.
“During my sophomore year I realized there was a lack of spirit and publicity for CAJ activities, especially in high school,” Sarah said. “So I wanted to create something that would raise school spirit.”
“I’m happy that more and more people are embracing the fact that they are Knights. That’s exactly what I hoped to accomplish.”
Design Club became Spirit Club, and with the name change came some new goals.
The club has continued to produce new gear, including a monogrammed CAJ duffle bag for athletes, as well as a blue T-shirt and hoodie featuring the CAJ motto “In Domino Fortis” (Latin for “In God’s strength”), written in gold.
Beyond merchandise, Sarah and her team have worked hard to organize various initiatives, such as athlete photo shoots, themed home sporting events, and promotional graphics posted on Instagram and around campus.
As a result, Sarah feels that students are showing more pride in their school.

“People aren’t trying to hide that they are from CAJ,” Sarah said. “I’m happy that more and more people are embracing the fact that they are Knights. That’s exactly what I hoped to accomplish.”
Looking ahead, Sarah—who plans to pursue a career in public relations and advertising—hopes to expand Spirit Club’s reach. She wants to include more initiatives related to robotics, arts, and music groups.
“I want the community to know that Spirit Club is not just about sports,” Sarah said. “There are many talented students who deserve more of the spotlight.”
