Dear CAJ Community,
After extended and prayerful consideration, I have informed the board that next year, 2014-15, will be my last as headmaster at CAJ. Lord willing, it will not be the last year at CAJ for my wife, Bette (6-12 art), and me. We hope to be able to continue to work and serve here until God calls us away. What my role will be after next year will be a matter of discussion between the board, the Leadership Team, and myself before the end of my current headmaster contract (July, 2015).
It has been a humbling and inspiring experience to be able to serve as CAJ's headmaster and as CAJ’s high school principal before that. We came 10 years ago uncertain if we would stay more than one year, and now we can not imagine a more fulfilling place to serve and live. I could not begin to adequately describe my love for this place and its people. I can assure you that I will do everything I can to serve you and to ensure a healthy, long, and mission-focused future for CAJ for every day of my remaining 1-1/2 years as headmaster. There is a time and a season for everything, and I am looking forward with anticipation to discovering what exciting things God has in store for CAJ and for us all!

Dear CAJ Community,
Brian Vander Haak has served at CAJ for ten years, six of those years as headmaster. Under Brian's leadership there have been many positive changes at CAJ. He has led the school through many challenging times including the aftermath of the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear crisis in 2011, and the change of the school legal status. Brian has an educator's heart along with an understanding of the business end of running a school. Both of these abilities are connected to, and supported by, his deep faith in God. The combination of understanding education that comes from a Biblical worldview as well as how to run a business is a rare combination in a headmaster, and the school has benefitted greatly by having Brian at the helm of the school. The members of the Board of Directors have often commented on how Brian was the right person to be the headmaster for the school at this time in the life of the school.
According to board policy, the headmaster needs to give the board information at least one full contract year in advance of his/her intention to leave the position of headmaster (policy B 2.5.4). In line with that policy, Brian informed the board about his plans for his role as headmaster up through the 2014-2015 school year at the January board meeting. After further discussion between the board and Brian at our February 4 meeting, the board has accepted Brian's request to step down as headmaster at the end of the 2014-2015 school year with much appreciation for the work he has done, and continued anticipation of working with him through the 2014-2015 school year. We also appreciate that Brian intends to stay on at CAJ in some other capacity which will contribute to a smooth transition.
In 2009, the board put in place a headmaster succession plan that we have already begun to implement. A headmaster search committee has been formed to work on the search process. In addition, there will be a portion of the CAJ website that will be devoted to information about the search process.

I would ask for your prayers for the search committee as well as for the Board of Directors as we begin the search for the next headmaster of CAJ.
Again, as a board we are thankful for the work that Brian has done, and we look forward to what he will continue to contribute to CAJ during the remainder of this year and into the next school year as he finishes out his term as headmaster. Knowing Brian, he will continue to work to his fullest abilities on behalf of CAJ until his time in the position of headmaster is completed.

私は、時間をかけて祈りつつ考慮した結果、来学年度（2014-2015年度）を最後に学校長の職から離れることを、CAJの理事会へ報告しました。神様がここを離れるように導かれるまでは、何らかの形でこの学校で働きたいと希望しているので、みこころであれば、妻ベティー（6-12、美術教師）と私の CAJでの最後の年にはならないでしょう。私の本校での役割が来年度以降どのようになるかは、2015年７月の学校長としての職務終了前までに、理事会や、学校のリーダーシップチームと私自身の間で検討していくことになります。
高等部の校長として、また、学校長としてこのCAJで働かせて頂いたことは、わたしにとって、とても、謙遜や感激をもたらす経験でした。１０年前にこちらに来た時は、一年以上とどまることができるのかどうかもはっきりわからない状態でしたが、いまでは、ここ以上に働きを成し遂げつつ住める場所は想像することができないほどになりました。この場所、ここでの人たちに対する私の愛情を十分に言葉であらわすことはできません。学校長としての残りの１年６ヶ月間、これからも長く、健全にミッションに焦点をおいてCAJの将来が続くいてくために、日々最善のことをしていくとお約束することができます。すべてのものごとには、時があり季節があります。私は、神様がCAJと私自身に対して、これからもどんなことをして下さろうとしているのかを発見していくことをとても期待しています。

CAJコミュニティーの皆様へ、
バンダーハック•ブライアンは、１０年間このCAJにおいて働き、そのうちの６年間を学校長として働いてきました。彼のリーダーシップの元で、本校にも、たくさんのポジティブな変化がもたらされました。２０１１年に起こった地震や津波による被害が日本にもたらしとき、それに伴う原発の危機の時、学校が法人の手続きをしたりと、数々のチャレンジを受けていた時にこの学校を導く働きをしました。彼は、教育者としての心と、学校を運営していく上でのビジネス的配慮も持てる人で、これらの能力はすべて、神さまへの深い信仰心につながっており、その信仰によってサポートされるものでした。聖書的世界観に基づく教育を理解し、また運営能力をも活かせる、とても、貴重な才能を持ち合わせた学校長として、学校に多大な益をもたらしました。理事会のメンバー達は、『学校がこのような状態であるときに、いかにブライアンこそ、最適な学校長』と、何度もコメントすることがありました。
理事会の規約（B.2.5.4.)では、学校長はその職を離れる意思があることを、少なくとも、契約期間が終わる一年前に理事会のほうへ伝えなければならない。とあり、ブライアンは、今年一月の理事会で2014-2015年度の終わりを持って、学校長の職を退く意思を示し、二月四日の理事会に於いてさらなる討議の末に、理事会はこの学校長辞職願いを受理しました。今まで彼がしてきた仕事に対して多大な感謝を述べると共に、来学年度も彼の働きに期待しています。さらに、彼は、学校長から離れた後も、違う形でCAJに貢献することを願っているので、次の学校長へのスムーズな移行の為にも貢献するでしょう。
2009年に作成された学校長継承計画を既に実施に移し、新学校長をさがすための行程がすすめられていくように、新学校長サーチ委員会が結成されました。それに加えて、CAJウエブサイトの情報の一部も新学長サーチの情報が載せられることでしょう。
理事会と共に次期学校長を決めるサーチ委員会の働きの為に皆さんのお祈りを切にお願い致します。
ブライアンのこれまでの働きに対し再度感謝を述べます。また、彼が残された今学年度と、来学年度の任期終わりまで、学校長としてCAJの為に最善をつくし貢献して下さる人であると私は知っています。
